14 goals for 2014: Quarterly Update 1

Seems like only a few days ago that I was making my yearly goals… but already a quarter of the year has gone by, whoosh! It’s been a pretty good year so far, I’ve been enjoying it… I thought I would do a quick post on how my yearly goals are going. This kind of self-indulgent post is more for me than for you, but if you enjoy it, bonus.

If you want to keep up to date with how my goals are going in way more depth than is probably normal…. be my friend on Listography.

Complete the iMDb top 100 list

I think I’m on around 57/58…. I started off well with this and it’s sort of tailed off in the past few weeks, but there’s still plenty of time to catch up, so I’m not too worried.

Watch 35 films at the cinema

Well this one is already complete! You can see the full list over here at my Letterboxd page. Pretty much impossible to pick my favourite, so perhaps I’ll go for a three-way tie between The Wolf of Wall Street, Dallas Buyers Club and Her. I thought about setting a new target as I’ve had a bit of a bonanza on this, but for now I’m just going to count it as a completed target and see how many more I can fit in.

Gym or Swimming 100 times

I’ve been 19 times – think that’s roughly on track…. ish. I’ve swam a total of 22,500 metres as well – pretty pleased with that. I reckon I should be able to get to 100,000 metres by the end of the year.

3 theatre / live comedy trips & 3 new galleries / museums

I went to a comedy night in Bath, and I’ve so far visited the British Museum. Still on track for this.

250 new (to me) albums

Wahey, another completed goal. You can see the full list here on my Listography page. Don’t know if I can pick a favourite, or even top three – there’s been a lot of good stuff. I’m going to up this target to 1000 new albums now. It’s been great listening to a load of new stuff that I probably wouldn’t have even thought about before this challenge, so I’m keen to keep the momentum up.

Make 5 new things

I haven’t made anything…. but there’s still plenty of time.

Read 6 new (to me) books

Woop whoop, I actually completed this challenge in February. I upped the challenge to 30 books, but since then I’ve fallen back into non-reading bad habits…. so we’ll see about that. I split the challenge into 15 biographies and 15 fiction books. Quel surprise, there’s a list of all the books I’ve read so far this year over here on my GoodReads profile.

Cook 10 new (to me) recipes

Just the one so far …. not exactly steaming ahead, but not too far behind. Need to get cracking with this one a bit more though.

24 photography blog posts

I’m a bit behind with this, but I’m not too worried about that … still plenty of time to catch up. I’ve only done a few so far – you can see them as follows:

Jenny in Bute Park & Castle Arcade with the Sony A7/R
Kylie in London with the Samsung NX30 and Sony A5000

If we count my round-ups of the Project 365 I’m doing, then those are extra (I haven’t decided whether I will count them yet or not – they are photography based after all). You can see those here:

Camera 365: January round-up
Camera 365: February round-up
Camera 365: March round-up

Record 12 ukulele or guitar covers

Pretty behind on this one … sorry fans. I’ve managed to bash out one cover, but there’s still time for more…. maybe I’ll have a weekend of madness and record 10 in one go. Probably won’t.

Here’s what I’ve done so far…

Photograph 10 new people

So far I’ve photographed five new people this year, it’s been fun. Nicely on track for this one, I’m hoping to be able to beat this target by a good few.

Visit 5 new cities and 1 national park (in the UK)

No national parks so far, but two new cities, so nicely on target here. I visited Wells (England’s smallest city) and Salisbury a couple of weeks ago with my good friend Sarah. It was fun. We also managed to fit in Stonehenge, which was interesting. I’ve got plans to visit Gloucester soon (as it’s close) and I have a hen-do in Chester this year….. so I just need to find one more and I’ll be done.

Finish my 50 teas list

Completed this one all the way back in January. I’ve upped the challenge for my life-list to 100, but I’m not too concerned about completing it quickly. Here’s an exciting list of all the teas I’ve tried.

Ride 5 new rollercoasters

No rollercoasters yet, damn.

    • Well… have you ever tried? I couldn’t play an instrument until I learned how to do it….

There will be more Frank before the end of the year, don’t worry.
